DOI : 10.5146/jcpath.2018.26 Terminology and classification of the appendiceal mucinous neoplasms have been a matter of debate for a long time because; despite well differentiated morphology resembling adenoma, they can cause pseudomyxoma peritonei without distant metastasis. Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare clinical syndrome characterized by mucin accumulation and tumor implants in the peritoneum. It often develops due to appendiceal mucinous neoplasms. The diagnostic criteria of appendiceal mucinous neoplasia and pseudomyxoma peritonei have been clearly defined by the International Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group in the last consensus meeting. Here the diagnostic approach to the appendiceal mucinous neoplasia and pseudomyxoma peritonei, problems in the differential diagnosis and management of the patients have been discussed with the recent literature. Anahtar Kelimeler : Appendix, Mucinous neoplasm, Pseudomyxoma peritonei
